Between February 2025 and June 2026, the aWISH project ran a series of twelve stakeholder workshops that brought together over 600 participants in direct dialogue about the future of animal welfare in Europe’s meat-producing livestock sector. This release brings the full series together.
On 14 January, the Horizon Europe project aWISH hosted a high-level policy event titled “From Indicators to Implementation: Pathways for EU Welfare Reform”, bringing together policymakers, researchers, NGOs, and sector representatives to discuss how animal-based welfare indicators can support the future of EU animal welfare legislation.
At the heart of the aWISH project (Animal Welfare Indicators at the SlaughterHouse) is the largescale, automated at-slaughter monitoring of animal-based welfare indicators for quantifying animal welfare status on-farm, during (un)loading, transport and slaughter.
