The ChickenCheck Footpad system, developed by CLK GmbH, continues to operate successfully within Pilot 3, contributing valuable data for automated welfare monitoring in poultry production.
Hardware installation status
The system has been running smoothly since summer 2023, with no adjustments needed to the hardware since installation. This stability confirms the robustness of the setup and its readiness for long-term data collection.
Algorithm development
An algorithm for detecting footpad lesions, pathological changes on the underside of the chicken’s foot, is fully operational. The analysis is conducted on an individual level, allowing for precise welfare assessments.
Over the past six months, a validation of the camera system was carried out collaboratively by Utrecht University (UU), ITAVI, and IGBZ, ensuring reliability and consistency across different pilot environments.
Data platform
Data from the system is available on the platform and updated daily. The platform also offers eight different visualisation types, such as the Footpad General Score over flocks (Pilot 3), supporting continuous welfare tracking and analysis.
With no further actions currently required, this milestone marks an important step forward in integrating automated welfare assessment tools into the poultry production chain.
