On 14 January 2026, the aWISH Project organised a policy event in Brussels titled “From Indicators to Implementation: Pathways for EU Animal Welfare Reform”. The event brought together policymakers, researchers, NGOs and sector representatives to discuss how animal-based welfare indicators can support the future of EU animal welfare legislation.
The event focused on how outcome-based, animal-centred indicators can be translated into practical and implementable policy pathways, contributing to the ongoing revision of EU animal welfare rules under the Farm to Fork Strategy. Discussions highlighted the role of slaughterhouses as key points for data collection, harmonisation and digitalisation.
The programme included expert presentations and a multi-stakeholder panel discussion, offering perspectives from EU institutions, academia, civil society, regional authorities and the livestock sector.
By convening actors from across the farm-to-fork chain, the aWISH Project reaffirmed its commitment to supporting evidence-based and outcome-oriented EU animal welfare policy.
