From 3 to 7 December 2025, Agribex transformed Brussels Expo into a showcase for the latest innovations in agriculture. The fair offered demonstrations, networking opportunities, and insights into the future of farming. Visitors included farmers, industry professionals, and high-level policymakers, including representatives from Belgium, the Netherlands, and the European Commission’s DG AGRI.
Although live animals were not permitted this year, the livestock sector remained prominently represented. ILVO highlighted several of its past and ongoing projects, covering energy efficiency (RES4LIVE), pig monitoring (PIGLIFE & PigID), and welfare monitoring at slaughterhouses (aWISH).
The aWISH Project was represented by Simon Verlinde and Noémie Van Noten, who engaged visitors in discussions about automated systems for monitoring animal welfare in pigs and broilers. The team shared how welfare indicators collected at slaughterhouses can provide actionable insights for farms, transport, and policy, demonstrating the integration of data, sensors, and AI in modern livestock management.
Agribex 2025 offered a unique opportunity for aWISH to connect with stakeholders, raise awareness about the importance of animal welfare and sustainable farming practices, and showcase the practical impact of technology-driven solutions in the livestock sector.
