The aWISH project proudly contributed to the 76th EAAP Annual Meeting, held in Innsbruck, Austria, from 25–29 August 2025. This year’s event brought together leading scientists, industry professionals, and policymakers to exchange knowledge on sustainable livestock production, with animal welfare high on the agenda.
Across three sessions, aWISH researchers showcased innovative approaches to improving welfare in both pigs and poultry:
- Maite Jachens (TiHo) opened the week with insights on “Experts’ vs. Farmers’ Opinions on ‘Best Practices’ to Improve Animal Welfare in Pig Farming.”
- Frank Tuyttens (ILVO) launched Session 32 with “Incorporating the pre-slaughter phase into chicken welfare monitoring and labelling schemes.”
- Yann Guyot (ITAVI) presented “Improving Broiler Transport Efficiency Using CFD: Heat Stress Analysis and Mitigation Measures.”
These presentations underscored the project’s central mission: to provide science-based, practical tools for monitoring and improving animal welfare across the entire supply chain—from farm to slaughterhouse.
We thank all attendees who joined our sessions and engaged in fruitful discussions. The EAAP meeting was a fantastic opportunity to share progress, exchange ideas, and strengthen collaboration within the European animal welfare community.
