On 18 March 2026, IGBZ PAN and Plukon jointly organised a face‑to‑face meeting with farmers and a regional demonstration event, combining discussion, knowledge exchange, and practical demonstrations focused on broiler welfare.
The event was structured into two complementary sessions, bringing together theory and practice.
The first session gathered 27 participants for presentations and an interactive workshop focused on best practices in broiler welfare and technological solutions. Discussions addressed environmental enrichment, good practices during chicken rearing, and effective measures to prevent catching‑related injuries. Participants also exchanged views on current challenges in the sector and were introduced to digital tools such as the EBENE® application and the ChickenCheck system. The session additionally presented the concept and objectives of the aWISH project, highlighting its role in supporting evidence‑based animal welfare improvements.
The second session welcomed 34 participants and took place at the Plukon slaughterhouse, where an on‑site demonstration allowed farmers and industry representatives to observe how animal welfare is assessed during slaughter operations. The programme included a guided visit along the slaughter line, offering real‑time insight into processing procedures and welfare assessment methods. Participants observed how indicators such as hock burns, wing fractures, and carcass injuries are evaluated in practice.
The session also featured a live demonstration of the ChickenCheck camera system, showcasing automated lesion detection in broilers, followed by a roundtable discussion that enabled participants to share observations, experiences, and perspectives.
Overall, the event fostered open dialogue between farmers, industry representatives, and technical experts, strengthening the link between practical experience, digital innovation, and animal welfare objectives.
